Welcome to PC From Scratch.

It's true, we're back after an extended period away. The site has been restored to how it was, then updated and a new design used. Now, we'll update the content - please feel free to make suggestions, or to submit stuff.

PC From Scratch : News
Posted by AndyM on 2008/10/26 18:26:27 (2060 reads)

I have been preparing to the site ready for a new build article. The site's software is now up to date and I think running as it should - please get in touch if you notice any problems.

As for the build - I have finally started on the images. There are 70+ of them that could be use with the article, so hopefully will help illustrate the build nicely.

PC From Scratch : New build coming soon
Posted by AndyM on 2007/4/9 22:30:21 (2738 reads)

I have finally gotten the parts together and built my new PC, although, it's currently resting in the other room. I did install WinXP MCE on it, but decided not to use that as I will be using it for my media centre, so I caved and ordered Vista (even though I was going to wait a while, to allow the bugs get ironed out a little).

I was going to make do with 1Gb of memory, and upgrade later, but with Vista, I decided to get an extra 1Gb, giving it a total of 2Gb.

The build was photographed, and will be documented in due course.

Misc : Let the spending commence...
Posted by AndyM on 2007/2/18 1:50:00 (2787 reads)

After pricing up the PC I want to build, I've found that I can't afford to buy it all at once (are there any nice PC type shops out there who'd like to send me stuff for free/review? ), so I'm buying parts as I can afford them. The buying of bits started after spotting that the Antec P180 case on Ebuyer was on a "today only" type offer, I grabbed a black one. The cost? £70 (it's gone back up to £80 now) with free shipping. Lovely.

When I went to lift it after it was delivered, I nearly fell over - that thing is heavy for what is just a PC case, so in theory, should be well built.

I'll take it out of the box, drool over it a bit, take some photos and do a review of it when I get chance. Obviously, it won't be with a working system as I don't have anything to put in it. yet...

PC From Scratch : Long time, no update
Posted by AndyM on 2007/1/12 20:50:39 (2748 reads)

I know, I've not updated much for ages - life and other things have simply gotten in the way of this site (poor excuse, I know).

Anyway, I'll be building another PC soon, which I'll document and put up on here.

Tom's Hardware has published an article entitled Supersize Your TV for $300: Build Your Own XGA Projector!. It shows how you can build a projector for your PC, using an overhead projector and a cannibalised LCD monitor.
